Circular Economy and Climate protection

Moving towards a circular economy is essential to securing a sustainable future.

The European Commission’s Circular Economy Action Plan is one the main blocks of the European Green Deal. EUROPEN welcomes the Green Deal as the new sustainable growth strategy for Europe, aimed at transforming the EU into a fair, prosperous, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050.

The Circular Economy Action Plan includes initiatives along the entire life-cycle of products to lead the way towards a climate-neutral, competitive economy of empowered consumers.

EUROPEN supports the objective to move further towards a resource efficient and circular economy and commits to work constructively with the EU institutions to this end. Future EU legislation should be clear, proportionate and effective, safeguarding the Internal Market and enabling innovation and growth for the packaging value chain in Europe.

EUROPEN supports a life-cycle approach to circularity, where environmental performance is assessed throughout the entire life cycle of packaging and product. EUROPEN also considers the harmonised implementation of the Directives adopted under the previous Circular Economy Plan a necessary prerequisite for a real transition towards circular economy while ensuring the correct functioning of the Internal Market.
