Senseo introduces the first industrial compostable coffee pad

With the relaunch of one of JDE Peet’s flagship portfolio brands SENSEO®, they have created an innovative product offering, via a new sustainable single-serve coffee system on the market.

The industrial compostable coffee pads, which contain 100% certified coffee, created from soluble paper are now sealed with a very small amount of industrially compostable plant-based sealant to ensure great taste, aroma, and appearance. The pads are designed in accordance with European and international composting standards to ensure they meet Member States' national market composting requirements.

In addition to the coffee pads, the company adopted sustainability by design principles for its new SENSEO® Eco Coffee appliance which now uses 85% recycled plastics and complies with A+ energy standards. It is packaged in a box made from 90% recycled paper.

This effort is part of SENSEO®’s continued commitment to reducing waste of packaging and electricity, while ensuring customers can enjoy a cup of coffee with care for the planet cup after cup.
